Posted by Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, a Nigerian Senior Advocate, stated that President Muhammadu Buhari’s broadcast on Thursday regarding the naira crisis was in contempt of the Court.
He said that Buhari’s action was reckless executive rascalry and blatant disregard for the law.
Adegboruwa said in a statement that he gave to XANDERTECH on Thursday that the President of Nigeria could not overrule the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
He said that Buhari should rescind his order and include old notes of N500 and N1000.
In his broadcast on Thursday, Buhari instructed the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to only allow the old N200 banknotes to circulate alongside the new N200, N500, and N1000 banknotes for a period of sixty days.
Adegboruwa, on the other hand, quickly responded to Buhari’s directive by stating, “There is the separation of powers in a democracy.”
“The President’s decision to separate the denomination of the old notes for the sake of legality amounts to executive rascality, brazen disregard, and contempt for the Supreme Court.
“The President cannot choose which part of the Supreme Court’s order will be followed,” the statement reads.
