Nasir El-Rufai, the governor of Kaduna State, has said that his harsh criticism of the group in the presidency that is working against Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for the presidency as the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was not done for his own benefit.
The governor was talking to reporters on Friday, not long after the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) met with President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House in Abuja to talk about changing the naira.
In an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Wednesday, El-Rufai said that some parts of the presidency were hurting Tinubu’s chances of becoming president.
El-comments Rufai’s worried high-ranking members of the ruling party, including the President’s wife, Aisha Buhari, who posted a video of the interview after El-Rufai spoke.
But on Friday, the governor said he wasn’t supporting Tinubu to get a political job, and he also said that his recent comments weren’t about President Muhammadu Buhari.
“I’m not making fun of Buhari. I’ve never said bad things about Buhari. I’m only criticizing the people around him who don’t tell him the truth or tell him about the problems these policies are causing.
“We agree with the president’s policies because we know why he’s putting them in place. But they aren’t telling him that these policies aren’t being followed correctly.
“Which godfather do I need?” Our candidate is Tinubu, and we want him to win. But I’m telling you right now that I’m not looking for a meeting. I swear I don’t need a godfather anymore.
“I don’t want to work or make money. I look up to God, not people, for everything.”
