Simon Ekpa, a well-known pro-Biafra separatist agitator, was arrested and questioned for hours before being released by Finnish police on Thursday.
Ekpa’s arrest was previously reported by INFORMATION NIGERIA. The separatist was led out of his Lahti apartment by the police.
After being allegedly detained by the police in Finland for an alleged crime, Ekpa was later released on Thursday evening.
According to HS reports, Ekpa’s release was confirmed on Thursday by the Finnish Central Criminal Police.
The police said that their action in Lahti and the subsequent arrest of the pro-Biafra agitator were connected to the preliminary investigation that was still going on.
The individual being questioned today is reportedly wanted for a crime. During a telephone interview, Tommi Reen from the Central Criminal Police informed HS that “we will return to the title on Friday.”
PUNCH NEWSPAPER reports that an official of the Finnish Embassy in Abuja who wishes to remain anonymous confirmed Ekpa’s arrest in a confirmation.
The official who does not have permission to speak to the media stated, According to the information we have, Helsingin Sanomat, a Finnish newspaper, has confirmed the image, and we are aware that he is in police custody in Finland. The official volunteered, “In it, Ekpa is seen being escorted out of his home in Lahti by plainclothes Finnish police.”
A petition urging the Finnish government, the Nigerian government, and the European Union to arrest Ekpa, the brains behind the sit-at-home order in the South-East, was signed before his arrest on Thursday.
Ekpa, a self-described disciple of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, had repeatedly requested that the people of the South-East observe a sit-at-home and boycott the country’s general elections, which were scheduled to take place on Saturday.
The enforcers of his repeated sit-at-home order have resulted in the loss of lives and property throughout the region as well as bloodshed.
