Recall that the Senate had threatened to send Buhari an impeachment notice due to his inability to address the nation’s security issues.
The minority caucus in the Senate issued Buhari a six-week deadline to address the nation’s security issues.
Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate, stands to gain if Osinbajo is excused from the impeachment procedure, according to Ohanaeze, who responded.
Ohanaeze alerted the National Assembly in a statement by its Secretary-General, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, that:
Vice President Yemi Osibanjo must be involved in the impeachment proceedings if the threats of impeachment against President Buhari are to be taken seriously, as both of them have failed Nigerians.
Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate, “stands to benefit significantly from the exemption of the Vice President from the risks of impeachment.”
If Osinbajo is elected president, Ohanaeze warned that he would open up loopholes that would benefit Tinubu in the 2023 election.
“Ndigbo cautions the National Assembly that any attempts to begin the impeachment procedure against President Buhari without Vice President Osibanjo are ineffective and will open doors and opportunities for the Vice President to play an ethnic card for the West.
Regardless of whether he faces off against Tinubu in the APC primary, the president will use his position to Bola Tinubu’s advantage, which is at odds with his body language and his likely reluctance to sway the 2023 elections in favor of anyone other than the candidate that Nigerians choose to vote for.
“If Buhari is impeached, Osibanjo must follow suit; both of them must bear responsibility for the nation’s growing security issues.
“Ndigbo supports any threats of impeachment by the National Assembly, but it must serve as a wake-up call for the President and Vice President to be active with their duties. If they continue to be onlookers and things go wrong, the National Assembly should not exonerate the Vice President for the notice of impeachment, as Tinubu stands to benefit if only Buhari is impeached.”
