Senator Philip Aduda, who represents the federal capital territory (FCT), was barred by Senate President Ahmad Lawan from speaking about the escalating insecurity and a challenge to Buhari following a private session on July 27. As a result, PDP senators staged a walkout.
According to reports, the majority of senators supported giving Buhari six weeks to address the security situation or face impeachment procedures.
After the session, Aduda stated there was a need to formally serve the president the notice, but Lawan ruled the FCT senator out of order.
Bulkachuwa said the legislative branch of government had done everything in its power to ensure that the executive had what it needed to address the country’s insecurity, but there hasn’t been much to show for it. Bulkachuwa was speaking on Monday during an interview on the Channels Television program Politics Today.
The majority of senators agreed there was a need to take that move, he added. “On that day, the senate went into closed session, and it was at the closed session that these topics were considered,” he said.
“The decision to impeach Buhari was backed by the majority but not by a clear majority.
It wasn’t made public because it had a place in a closed session. There are no journalists present at the private meetings, not even staff. Senators are just meeting at this event.
The legislative branch of the government has attempted everything within its power, with the exception of one thing, which is what is happening. We’ve tried budgeting to ensure that the president has all he needs to function.
“We also tried talking to service chiefs and security guards to learn about their issues, and when they shared them with us, we sought to suggest remedies before advising Mr. President.
The security situation was getting worse, so we realized that nothing had actually changed.
