Speaker of the Osun Assembly establishes committee to examine earlier laws

An ad hoc committee has been established by Adewale Egbedun, Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, to review the laws approved by the 7th Assembly between July and November 2022.

According to xandertech, the Speaker pledged on June 6, 2023, that following the 2022 gubernatorial election, laws approved by the 7th Assembly would be reviewed.

As stated by Egbedun, “the committee is to critically look at the content from the title to all sessions of the law including the schedules and examine the Policy thrust of the Bills as well as make appropriate recommendations for the consideration of the House.”

In Osogbo, the state capital, he made the announcement during Monday’s plenary session of the house.

According to him, the following laws will be affected: “University of Ilesa Establishment Law, 2022; Environmental Protection Establishment Law, 2022; Osun State University Teaching Hospital Establishment Law, 2022; Osun Examination Board Establishment Law, 2022; and Osun New Town and Development Establishment Law, 2022.”

Akinyode Oyewusi, the Deputy Speaker of the House, will serve as the Committee’s Chairman, and Rachael Ojimi, the Director of Legal, will serve as Secretary.

Olufemi Popoola represents Boripe State Constituency, Taofiq Olayiwola represents Ede South State Constituency, Tajudeen Adeyemi represents Ifelodun State Constituency, Taofiq Adeyemi represents Aiyedire State Constituency, and Oderinwale Akinyemi represents Boripe State Constituency.
