Buhari welcomes Yari in Daura in the Senate campaign for president

Sen. Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari, the former governor of Zamfara State, earned a boost in his bid for the Senate presidency after meeting former President Muhammadu Buhari at Buhari’s house in Daura, Katsina State, in contrast to rumors that circulated in some quarters.

As more senators-elect from other political parties have expressed support for Sen. Yari, a majority of them are now calling for him to be the next Senate President.

Countless senators-elect from different political parties and the six geopolitical zones traveled with Senator Yari to Daura to congratulate the outgoing president on a successful finish to his term.

According to sources present at the meeting, including an APC leader, Sen. Yari was warmly welcomed by the very jovial former President Buhari, and at no point did he express any displeasure of his guests in any way.

Yari and his team assured the former President that they were working towards a cordial legislative/executive relationship under the new administration and added that they were not in conflict with the executive but committed to strengthening the legislative arm of government. They said they were in Daura to congratulate the former president and pray for his health after leaving office.

“Senator Yari visited President Buhari together with more than 20 other senators-to-be in order to congratulate him on a job well done and to offer prayers for his health.

“That gesture by Senator Yari shows his respect for elders, humility, and love for the previous President, and that is a sign of great statesmanship and leadership.

The delegation received a warm welcome from the boisterous former President Buhari. The discussion was quite animated, and the team gave the previous president their word that they were committed to bolstering the legislative branch of government rather than engaging in conflict.
