Posted by The money laundering and criminal charges brought by the Rivers State Government against former lawmaker Chinyere Igwe have been dropped.
Igwe was detained and charged in court on February 24th, the day before the presidential election, for having $499,000,000 in his possession.
However, after a few weeks, bail was granted for him.
According to xandertech, Professor Zacchaeus Adangor, the attorney general and commissioner for justice of Rivers State, announced the dismissal of the lawsuit when the case was readied for a proper trial on Wednesday morning.
Adangor failed to provide an explanation for the state government’s choice to drop its charges against Igwe.
After the defense attorney did not object to the state government’s argument, the trial judge, Justice Stephen Daylop-Pam, released the defendant in his judgement.
The judge also mandated that the Police hand over the exhibits they had taken from him, including his international passport.
