According to Minister of Works David Umahi, the ministry he oversees would build a flyover as a long-term fix to the ongoing flooding on the Abuja-Lokoja expressway.
The minister reportedly said this on Tuesday, a day after being sworn in to office, while on a tour to check on current building projects on the Abuja-Lokoja expressway.
The minister traveled to various job sites with Yahaya Bello, the governor of Kogi State, and a few ministry directors.
The Abuja-Lokoja road, in the minister’s opinion, is a crucial entryway connecting the southwest, south-south, and southeast regions to the Federal Capital Territory and the northern section of the nation.
Because of its crucial significance in the socioeconomic life of the nation, he said, focus should be given to it.
“We have observed the Koton Karfe section region that consistently floods, and the only way to fix it is to fly over it at a height above the water level.
“That will truly work because it will require five flyovers multiplied by two, or around 1.6 kilometers.
As a result, he said, “we are going to be developing a proposal and submitting it to Mr. President for his approval because we are seeking for long-term solutions to our challenges.
The minister added that the road contracts would be reviewed and redesigned but asked the contractors in charge of the project to utilize concrete.
He pledged to build concrete roads all around the nation, claiming that they were more durable, could last up to 50 years, and required no upkeep.
