A woman was taken into custody and charged by the police in the state of Enugu for allegedly extorting money before issuing voters’ cards to their owners.
DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the Public Relations Officer for the Police Command, issued a statement on Thursday to confirm this.
According to Ndukwe, the suspect and her accomplice were granted bail, and the case was moved to February 15 for a second hearing.
“On January 31, 2023, police detectives working for the State Criminal Investigation Department of the Enugu State Command made an arrest for a 41-year-old female suspect.
“Nnamani was involved in the viral social media video in which she is portrayed as allegedly selling INEC Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) at a Primary School in Emene, Enugu, for one thousand nairas.
Nkiruka Patience Obinna, 38, who has been identified as a member of the INEC staff and is alleged to have given the aforementioned PVCs to the first suspect for distribution to the actual owners, was also arrested.
He stated, “The investigation has been completed, the case has been charged to court in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022, and the suspects have been arraigned accordingly.”
