The bandits had attempted to attack Chibani Market in the Munyan Local Government Area, according to a statement signed by DSP Wasiu Abiodun of the Police Public Relations Office. However, the bandits were defeated by vigilantes from the area.
He went on to say that another group of robbers had tried to attack the neighborhoods around Lambata when they were fighting with security guards with guns.
Also on Saturday, around 11 a.m., it was reported that bandits had been seen in the Kwakuti-Dajigbe area of Lambata, attempting to attack some Gurara LGA communities.
“The bandits were engaged in a gun duel and repelled, with scores of them being neutralized and others escaping with bullet injuries. Combined teams of police from Gawu-Babangida Div and Paiko Div, military, and vigilante members were drafted to the scene.
The statement read, “Regrettably, the DPO, Paiko, SP Mukhtar Sabiu, and four other policemen from both divisions died during the gun duel.”
In addition, Abiodun stated that the officer’s bodies had been found.
