Posted by Prof. Isa Pantami, who is the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, said that the price of one gigabyte of data will drop from N1200 in November 2019 to N350 in October 2022.
The minister said this on Wednesday at the end of the First Digital Economic Regional Conference (DERC), which was held in Abuja.
Pantami, talking about what the federal government has done for broadband, said that with the launch of Elon Musk’s Starlink, the whole country of Nigeria is now connected.
He said that other countries in West Africa are eager to use the country’s digital economy policy as a model for the rest of the region.
His words were,
“If you look at the plan, the average price of one gigabyte of data in November 2019 was N1,200. We then said that by lowering the cost of production, we want to bring that price down to N390 by 2025.
“According to a report from October 2022 by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), the average price of 1GB of data is now N350.
“When making policy, we sometimes give less than we promise and give more than we promised.”
