The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reported that Kayode Laro, Nigeria’s ambassador to France, has passed away.
In a statement on Saturday that was written by its spokeswoman, the Ministry. Laro passed away last Friday in Paris, France, following a protracted illness, according to Mrs. Francisca Omayuli.
In a statement, the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its “deep sorrow” at learning of the passing of Ambassador Kayode Laro on Friday, August 11, 2023, in Paris, France, following a protracted illness.
Ambassador Kayode Laro served as Nigeria’s ambassador to France and Monaco concurrently until his death. He made a significant contribution to improving France’s relations with Nigeria.
“The late Ambassador Laro served as a professional diplomat for 35 years, from December 1983 to December 2018, in the Nigerian Foreign Service. Following his retirement from the military in 2021, he was appointed as Nigeria’s ambassador to France in honor of his enormous services to the country’s foreign service.
“Over the course of his career, late Ambassador Laro served the nation in a variety of roles both domestically and overseas, including serving as the general consul of Nigeria in Atlanta, Georgia. When he worked for Nigeria’s Permanent Missions to the UN in New York and Geneva, he made a name for himself in global diplomacy. He was also the Director of the Foreign Affairs Minister’s Office.
Ambassador Laro was a wise, experienced, and classic diplomat whose contributions to the Nigerian Foreign Service will always be recognized and valued.
The statement went on to say that “The Federal Government of Nigeria mourns his passing and extends its sympathy and condolences to the family he left behind, praying that God grants them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”
