Mr Maxwell Mgbudem has been elected to serve as the national head of the Accord Party’s caretaker committee for the next six months.
Mgbudem was elected at the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Friday night, during which the party’s outgoing Mohammed Nalado-led National Working Committee (NWC) was disbanded after serving its term.
The new caretaker committee also includes Adebukola Ajaja as national secretary and Yusuf Saulawa as national treasurer.
Hassan Bello was also elected as national finance secretary, Ibe ThankGod as national organising secretary, Omoregie Solomon as national publicity secretary, and Garba Mohammed as national auditor.
In his award speech, Mgbudem described his rise as a daring effort to liberate the party.
He promised to work with everyone to reposition the party and further Nigeria’s development.

“A political party serves as the foundation for the nation’s democracy. When you do it right, the nation will benefit.
“If political parties’ leaders and management follow the rule of law, it will spread throughout society.
“When we have men and women who are aware of the requirements of the constitution and want to see the political party succeed and the rule of law triumph, society benefits.
“Through the persons of integrity and capacity so elected, we will be in charge of the affairs of the society.
“The issue we are facing today is that many party leaders have commercialised politics. But now, we want to tell the world that Accord is a party dedicated to constructing a new cradle that will aid in the nation’s reconstruction.
“Starting now, the battle and work have begun. Our election is not to come and relax, but to strive to establish a new Accord Party that will improve the nation,” he stated.
Mgbudem instructed party officials at the state and ward levels to collaborate in resolving grievances among party members.
He stated that the new leadership of the party would take future elections, particularly the upcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states, extremely seriously.
“This is not the time to relax or sleep, Accord must produce governors, members of the National Assembly, State Assemblies and even the president,” Mgbudem said in a statement.
Earlier in his remarks, the former national chairman, Nalado, thanked party members and leaders for allowing him to serve the party throughout the years.
Nalado stated that during his stint as party chairman, he achieved various goals, including election victories.
This, he claims, rendered it difficult for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister Accord with 74 other parties in 2020.
Nalado stated that the Accord Party played an important role in the national leadership of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), for which he was chosen national chairman for two terms.
He stated that although out of government, he would be accessible to help the party’s new leadership thrive.
He promised to continue supporting the party’s development anytime he was asked to do so.
Following the elections, new members of the national committee took their oaths of office.
