Just hours before Saturday’s All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election, Lucky Imansuen—who had been running for governor on the platform of the party and had previously served as Edo State’s deputy governor—withdrew from the campaign.
The APC National Working Committee (NWC) decided to allocate the governorship seat to the Edo Central Senatorial District of the State, he claimed, which is why he decided to withdraw from the race.
Shortly after Ernest Umakhine and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu also declared their retirement from the race on Friday night, he made his choice.
“I am writing to you today with a heavy heart to announce my decision to withdraw from the gubernatorial primaries of our great party scheduled for tomorrow, 17th February 2024 in the interest of peace and unity of our great party. It is with heavy heart that I make this announcement,” Imansuen privately signed.
“After careful consideration, I have concluded that it would be prudent to support the party’s choice to zone the governorship to the Edo Central Senatorial district, as our national working committee (NWC) has wisely voiced their desire for this location.
