Kylian Mbappe, a forward for Paris Saint-Germain, has declared himself the most deserved candidate to win the coveted Ballon d’Or award for the current calendar year.
Despite opposition from players like Lionel Messi and Manchester City’s prolific scorer Erling Haaland, the France international feels deserving of winning the prize this year.
After scoring a hat-trick against Argentina, Mbappe led the French national team to the World Cup final and earned the Golden Boot in the process. However, he lost on penalties after being edged out by his opponent.
The Frenchman also assisted PSG in claiming the Ligue 1 championship this year.
In an interview with TF1, Kylian Mbappe stated that his odds of winning the Ballon d’Or are excellent.
The Golden Globe? Talking about an individual prize is never easy because you have to sell yourself, he remarked.
Do I merit winning the Ballon d’Or? What qualifies under the new standards? attracting attention, scoring goals, and leaving an impression? I believe I meet those requirements. I’d say yes, but I’m always hopeful because the people are the ones who vote.
During the recently finished 2022–23 season, the 23-year-old made 40 appearances for PSG, scoring 41 goals and assisting 10 others.
