Elders and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the North-central geopolitical zone have put their support behind Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the current national chairman, and have disregarded calls for the position to be returned to the region.
In a display of support for Ganduje, who they claimed will continue to head the party beyond the 2027 general elections, a group affiliated with Concerned North-central APC Stakeholders invaded the APC national secretariat in Abuja yesterday.
Stakeholders in the APC party have voiced their belief that the current National Working Committee (NWC) under the leadership of Sen. Ameh Ebute has the ability to lead and be fair to all people regardless of area, tribe, or religion, and that they should be encouraged to work even harder.
The purpose of Senator Ebute’s solidarity visit, according to Ganduje, was to urge Ganduje to keep up the good work for the party. Ebute argued that the selection of the National Chairman should be based on the candidate’s demonstrated ability to defeat the opposition in elections.
The states of Benue, Plateau, Kogi, Niger, Nasarawa, FCT, and Kwara are our ancestral homelands. We are the genuine leaders and party members from all the states in North Central Nigeria, and we are here to represent our party. We have freely chosen to visit Your Excellency in solidarity as a group of genuine progressives. We feel this is the most appropriate moment to physically show our gratitude for all that you have done for our party since taking the oath of office as national chairman.
Regarding the zoning arrangements that made Senator Abdullahi Adamu, your predecessor, who is from Nasarawa State in the North Central Zone, national chairman of our party until his resignation in 2023, there have been increasing demands from certain factions within the North Central Zone to change the current occupant of the position.
