NSCDC deploys 750 personnel, increases patrol in Uyo

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says it has deployed about 750 of its personnel to join other security agencies in Akwa Ibom State to beef up security and ensure hitch-free Easter celebration.

The personnel were drawn from the Armed Squad, Agro Rangers, Anti-Vandal Squad, Special Female Squad, Counter terrorism squad and operatives of the Intelligence department.

The State Commandant, Dr Yusuf Imam, who disclosed this in a press statement issued on Saturday, explained that the deployment was part of the strategic plan to ensure security of life and property during the celebration in the state and beyond.

He therefore charged the unit Commanders across the state to increase patrol in the state capital and other local government areas and respond promptly to any incidence of breach of peace.

He also directed Divisional Officers to mobilize their personnel to beef up security in the 31 Local Government Areas of the state.

He said, “To ensure a hitch-free Easter celebration in the state, the Command has ordered the immediate deployment of 750 personnel of the corps to join other security agencies to provide water-tight security all through the Easter celebration and beyond.

“We are expecting an influx of people into the state which will translate to increased social activities. So, I want you to deploy your men to strategic locations, especially places with increased social and religious activities.

“We cannot rest on our oars; we need to increase patrol within and without the metropolis, not forgetting notorious black spots. We need to beef up security in worship centres as well.”

The commandant also felicitated with christians in the state and admonished them to celebrate moderately, while reflecting on the essence of Easter.
