Posted by Peter Obi, who is running for president as a member of the Labour Party, has asked Nigerians to be patient with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as it changes the country’s currency.
Information Nigeria knows that the Nigerian people have been going through a lot of trouble because of the CBN’s changes and the lack of naira notes.
There were also protests in different parts of the country because the situation was so bad, and some commercial banks wouldn’t give the public the new notes.
President Muhammadu Buhari had also told Nigerians what he thought about the policy and promised that something would be done in seven days.
The former governor of Anambra State talked about this on Twitter on Sunday, saying that the policy would help Nigerians in both economic and social ways.
He asked the top bank to give the new bills to many people, especially those living in the countryside.
Obi said, “The redesign of the currency is not unique to Nigeria. It is a painful and inconvenient thing to do, but it will help the economy and society in a big way in the long run.
“Even though there are things that could be done better, I urge Nigerians to be patient with the CBN and Federal Government in the hopes that the people and the country will benefit from the changes.
“We also ask the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the banks to move quickly to make the new currency available to small depositors and people who don’t have bank accounts. This will help my fellow Nigerians, especially those who are poor and live in rural areas far from banks, feel less pain.”
