The collection of Permanent Voter Cards has been postponed by one week by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
On Saturday, Festus Okoye, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, revealed this.
Due to the success thus far, the commission is extending the PVC collection for the second time.
The following was quoted from the statement: “The Commission met today, Saturday, January 29, 2023, a day after its meeting with the Resident Electoral Commissioners from the 36 States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and deliberated on a number of issues, including the reports from RECs on the ongoing collection of Permanent Voters Cards in its 774 Local Government Offices nationwide.
Remember that the Chairman of the Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, stated that the Commission would not hesitate to consider additional measures to ensure that all citizens have ample opportunity to obtain their PVCs prior to the General Election at the meeting with RECs on Friday, January 28, 2023?
“The Commission is heartened by the progress made so far as more Nigerians head out daily to collect their PVCs, having examined reports from all the States of the Federation.
The Commission has decided to further extend PVC collecting in all of its Local Government Offices nationally by an additional one week in response to reports from the various States and talks with Resident Electoral Commissioners.
“Therefore, the nationwide collection of PVCs will continue and conclude on February 5, 2023.
“The Commission is expanding PVC collection across the country for the second time, and this is the campaign’s final stretch. The collection window is now open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day, including weekends, and has been extended by an additional two hours.
The Commission did not print the PVCs for those who engaged in multiple and double registrations, therefore they shouldn’t waste their time visiting any of the Commission’s offices.
“The Commission will continue to take action on all reported instances of unethical behavior during the ongoing PVC collection and will make sure that no Nigerian is adversely affected and that everyone who completed a legal registration has the opportunity to pick up their PVCs.
“The Commission commends the citizens’ perseverance and patience once more,” it said.
