Posted by The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has stated that given her previous official position, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State cannot continue to act as chairman of the rescheduled Edo State governorship primary poll.
Following the previous declaration of an inconclusive governorship primary election, the APC on Wednesday appointed Bassey Otu, the governor of Cross River State, to replace the governor of Imo State as head of the Electoral Panel.
At a press conference on Thursday, Felix Morka, the party’s spokesperson, stated that Uzodimma was supposed to submit a report to the National Economic Council on Thursday. This is on the same day as the APC primary election in Edo State, although the notice of review signed by Sulaiman Argungu, the APC national organizing secretary, did not specify why.
“The All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken note of reports in certain media outlets indicating that His Excellency Hope Uzodinma, the Governor of Imo State and Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF), was ousted or removed from his position as Chairman of the Edo Gubernatorial Primary Election Committee and replaced with His Excellency Bassey Otu, the Governor of Cross River State,” Morka stated.

It has been mistakenly reported that Governor Uzodinma was “sacked” or “dropped”; however, he was unable to oversee the Party’s Edo State Gubernatorial Primary Election Process because he was scheduled to attend and present a report at the National Economic Council meeting today, February 22, 2024.
The Edo State Gubernatorial Primary Election Process was successfully concluded when His Excellency Bassey Otu, Governor of Cross Rivers State and former Deputy Chairman of the Committee, willingly agreed to take over as Chairman.
