Governors cannot be prosecuted for allegedly inciting remarks made about the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)’s naira redesign policy, according to Usman Baba, the IGP.

After the national security council meeting that President Muhammadu Buhari presided over on Wednesday, Baba spoke with journalists.

Kaduna governor Nasir el-Rufai and Ogun governor Dapo Abiodun have both publicly criticized Buhari’s directive regarding the naira redesign policy.

El-Rufai and Abiodun have insisted that the old N500 and N1,000 notes remain valid despite the federal government’s announcement that they are no longer accepted as payment. This is despite the fact that the outcome of a lawsuit that is currently pending before the Supreme Court relates to the issue.

We are all aware of the reason why governors have not been warned. We are looking into it. Anyone can be investigated for any act.

However, in order for him to be prosecuted, some individuals enjoy immunity. Usman Baba stated, “I think that is one of the reasons, but that will not stop us from cautioning them, warning them, and advising them.”
