The National Emergency Management Agency told Nigerians not to put their lives in danger by leaving the country to look for better jobs elsewhere.
NEMA provided the advice, noting that in 2022, it had returned 1,003 Nigerians who had been abandoned in the Niger Republic and Libya.
The International Organization for Migration reportedly supported the exercise, according to the agency’s Coordinator of its Kano Territorial Office, Dr. Nuradeen Abdullahi, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria in Kano on Saturday.
“The IOM’s care provided for the returnees when they were transported back from Agadez (Niger Republic), Khartoum, Libya, and Chad.
He also mentioned that there were 225 youngsters and 665 adult males among the 1,003 returns that were accepted between April and December 2022.
One hundred and eight of the kids who were given away are girls.
He stated, “Among others, the returns were from the states of Katsina, Kaduna, Bauchi, Sokoto, Lagos, and Kano.
“Chances can be found everywhere. To survive, you don’t necessarily need to insist on White Collar Work; all you need is the Will to Achieve,” Abdullahi added.
According to him, significant parties must launch extensive campaigns to educate the public about the risks associated with looking for better pastures elsewhere.
Additionally, strict border surveillance is required.
Abdullahi added, “The traffickers who send Nigerians abroad in search of greener pastures should be apprehended and prosecuted in accordance with the law to serve as a deterrence to others.
In addition to other pertinent government organizations, the returns were welcomed in 2022 by NEMA, the National Commission for Refugees, Migration, and IDPs, and the Nigerian Red Cross.
