On Friday, Nigerians flocked to the Yaba, Lagos, South West zonal office of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to buy 25 kilograms of rice, a product the agency had released to alleviate the country’s skyrocketing food prices.
On Thursday, the confiscated food goods were marked down to N10,000 per 25 kilograms by Comptroller General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, according to LEADERSHIP.
The CGC went on to say that the distribution was a part of their continued effort to ensure that Nigerians have access to food, and that they had received government approval to distribute the confiscated goods to those in need.
We have been dealing with the economy’s problems, like the lingering consequences of insecurity and the present exchange rate problems, over the past few months thanks to the government’s efforts. More than 20,000 bags of various grains (including rice, beans, maize, guinea corn, millet, and soy beans) are among the supplies. There are also 2,500 cartons and 963 bags of dried fish. At the flag-off, the CGC announced that among the other items are dried peppers, tomatoes, cooking oil, Maggi, macaroni, salt, sugar, and garri.
There were a lot of Nigerians rushing to buy food as LEADERSHIP visited distribution stations in Yaba, Lagos.
In an interview with LEADERSHIP, Bunmi Omoyele, a Nigerian, demanded the establishment of additional distribution centers around the state.
