An interim order has been issued by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to seize 14 properties in Lagos, Abuja, and the United Arab Emirates that are associated with the Kogi State Government. The Lagos-based Federal High Court granted the request.
Following an ex parte motion filed and argued by Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, EFCC counsel, in suit FHC/L/CS/301/2023, Justice Nicholas Oweibo granted the order.
The EFCC let the court know that the properties, remembering the one for the world’s tallest structure Burj Khalifa in Dubai, UAE, were sensibly thought to have been gotten from unlawful action.
In addition, Oyedepo told the court that the N400 million “was intended to be used for the acquisition of Plot No. 1” and was reasonably suspected to have been obtained from illegal activity. Victoria Island, Lagos, 1224 Bishop Oluwole Street.
In his decision, Justice Oweibo gave the EFCC permission to seize the N400 million that was also linked to the state and recovered from Aminu Falala.
The judge also gave the EFCC a 14-day deadline to publish the order so that any interested party could provide justification as to why the forfeiture order should not be made permanent.
