Abdulrasheed Bawa, Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, has been placed under arrest and remand by the Kogi State High Court.
Bawa was remanded in the Kuje prison by the court for disobeying an order.
In his ruling on Monday, February 6, Justice Rukayat Ayoola also ordered the Inspector General of Police to ensure compliance because the EFCC boss acted in contempt of court.
The judge decided that Bawa should be remanded for the next 14 days because he didn’t follow a court order from November 30, 2022, telling him to bring Ali Bello, the applicant in a case.
Sumaila Abbas, the applicant’s attorney, had taken Bawa to court for illegally arresting and detaining Ali Bello. The court ruled in Bawa’s favor, but three days later, the EFCC arraigned him for alleged money laundering.
However, the EFCC’s requests to set aside the ruling and halt its implementation were denied for lack of merit.
Keep in mind that Bawa was found guilty of contempt of court in November 2022 by an Abuja High Court sitting in Maitama.
