Treasurer Suspended by Labour Party Over N3bn Fraud Accusations

After Mrs. Oluchi Opara accused Barr. Julius Abure, the party’s national chairman, of wasting N3 billion of the N3.5 billion collected for the 2023 election campaigns, the Nigeria Labour Party (LP) suspended her for six months.

The Labour Party claims that out of all their accounts, they did not raise N3.5 billion for the campaign.

The party has also established a disciplinary commission against the national treasurer, according to Mr. Obiora Ifoh, the national publicity secretary, who spoke at a news conference on Wednesday.

Following an emergency meeting of the Labour Party’s National Working Committee, the party’s leadership has appointed a disciplinary committee to investigate allegations that National Treasurer Oluchi Opara has discredited the party and misled the public about its internal affairs in violation of party regulations.

“The Party National Headquarters Conference Hall, Abuja, Nigeria, will host the National Treasurer’s appearance on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at 10 a.m., as per an invitation extended at a meeting held on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, and chaired by Mrs. Ladi Iliya, Deputy National Chairman.

“The party leadership is also urging the teaming members of the party to exercise patience with it, and it assures that the cloud will soon lift,” Ifoh continued.
