On Thursday, a man named Ekene Itodo, 28, appeared in an Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court in Lagos State. He is accused of obtaining N1.2 million from three individuals under the bogus pretense of securing employment for them.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Itodo is on trial for five conspiracy, fraud, and breach of peace-related charges. However, he denied the charges.
ASP Benedict Aigbokhan, the prosecutor, told the court that the defendant and one person who is still at large committed the crimes on January 30 and February 6, 2023, in Igando, Lagos, on Ayerowi Street.
He claims that the defendant obtained N550,000 from Mr. Benedict Okon fraudulently; Mr. Sampon Sunday gave N500,000, and Felix Musa gave N170,000.
He claimed that the defendant conned the complainants into accepting a total of N1.2 million in exchange for employment opportunities.
The defendant, according to the prosecutor, used the money for personal purposes rather than obtaining employment.
He claimed that the offenses violated Sections 168, 172, 272, 287, and 411 of the Lagos State Criminal Law of 2015.
He was granted bail in the amount of N500,000 with two sureties in the same amount by the Magistrate, Miss K. A. Ariyo.
She stipulated that the sureties must have paid taxes to the Lagos State Government and be employed.
She put off discussing the case until March 10.
