In the wee hours of Friday morning, Chinyere Igwe, a member of the House of Representatives, was allegedly taken into custody along Aba Road in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, with more than $500,000 in his possession.
Igwe, who sits in the lower chamber of the National Assembly and represents Port Harcourt Federal Constituency 2 there, is said to have claimed that Atiku Abubakar, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, gave him the money to ensure that he would win the state’s election.
The PDP supporter’s sharing formula was also retrieved by the police.
The method by which they intend to provide funds to Independent National Electoral Commission officials and security agencies is depicted in the image below.
The arrest was confirmed by Rivers State Police Command spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko, who informed journalists that “a statement on it will be released soon.”
