There has been talk that Samuel Ortom, the former governor of Benue State, is about to switch political parties, but he has denied the rumor.
Ortom revealed this during the PDP enlarged caucus meeting in Makurdi, the capital of the state. He characterized the rumours as malicious and emphasized that he had no intention of leaving the PDP, the party he has worked tirelessly to build for many years.
You may remember that the outgoing governor is the head of the group of five PDP governors that collaborated to defeat Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election.
“We as leaders of the party, we have no issues and we are calling on all party members to work in unity to ensure that the party bounces back to return power to the people, which is the slogan of the party,” Ortom stated at the gathering.
To discourage would-be rumor mongers, he threatened to expose anyone caught spreading unsolicited rumors, advertisements, and gossip with the goal of separating stakeholders.
Ortom stated that members will be able to choose candidates of their choosing at the upcoming PDP local government and ward congresses, and that no candidates will be forced on them.
