According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Enugu State’s general elections will require at least 13,000 security personnel.
On Monday in Enugu, Dr. Chukwuemeka Chukwu, the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria.
According to NAN, INEC has scheduled Presidential and National Assembly elections for Saturday, February 25, and Governorship and State Assembly elections for March 11.
According to Chukwu, the Inter-agency Consultation Committee on Election Security was preparing to mobilize and deploy the necessary number of security personnel to guarantee smooth state elections.
He stated that security personnel would be sent to the state’s 4,145 polling stations, 260 Registration Area Centers, and collation centers in the state’s 17 council areas.
The REC revealed that the security at the commission’s local government offices had been increased and that non-sensitive materials had been distributed prior to the elections.
“We are working ahead of the commission’s schedule and ensuring that all INEC deadlines in the state are implemented in a practical and proactive manner.”
In order to ensure that elections in Enugu State are secure, free, fair, and credible, we have continued to hold regular meetings and engage with stakeholders.
He stated, “We are ready to ensure that the state elections in 2023 will be the best, especially with the use of technology.”
