Posted by After meeting Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Labour Party (LP)’s candidate for governor in Kano State, Bashir Ishaq Bashir reportedly switched to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Bashir met with Tinubu in Abuja on Sunday, February 12, according to photos and comments that were shared on social media. The two of them talked about plans to officially join the APC.
However, it is still unknown whether he would also give up his goal of becoming governor.
Pictures show that Mohammed Zarewa, chairman of the Labour Party’s presidential campaign council in Kano, and a few other party leaders from Kano were also present at the meeting.
A close associate of Bashir told TheCable under anonymity that the primary reason for the defection was the “exclusion of major northern stakeholders in the decision-making process of the party’s campaign,” despite the fact that no official statement has been released regarding Bashir’s departure.
The associate added that the “lack of clear direction on the interest of northern Nigeria” was another factor in the departure.
It was also said that Bashir had a separate meeting with Kashim Shettima, the APC vice presidential candidate.
Keep in mind that Mohammed Zarewa, who is running for governor in the LP, is also the chairman of the Presidential Campaign Council; Balarabe Wakili, the state coordinator of Peter Obi’s campaign, and Idris Dambazau, a member of the presidential campaign council, had skipped the party’s Kano presidential rally in January.
