Timipre Sylva, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, made this statement to reporters in Abuja.
While Sylva was speaking, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) stakeholders were meeting to discuss rules.
The minister was in response to marketers raising the price of gasoline at the pump from N165 per litre to N169, N184, and N218 per litre, depending on the location in the nation’s capital and other states.
I can assure you with authority that we have not deregulated, he said. The government continues to subsidize gas prices. The government is not to blame for price rises.
“It’s most likely from the marketers, but of course, I’ll speak with the authorities to make sure the pricing is properly regulated. We have not deregulated, and this is not from the government.
But a lot is happening to make sure the lines get shorter. I have seen a decrease in Abuja’s lines as of yesterday.
