Mrs. Akunna Roseline Udom, 35, was taken into custody by the Anambra State Police Command on suspicion of stealing, advance fee fraud, and conspiracy.
DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, the command’s spokesperson, said in a statement on Monday, February 20, that the suspect is a member of a notorious gang that specializes in defrauding the general public.
The PPRO claims that Udom makes deceptive promises to young women who are single in order to get them married to her overseas brother.
According to the spokesperson, the new member of the gang has defrauded more than five young women of more than N9 million.
“Roseline is a member of a well-known three-man gang that specializes in defrauding the general public. The statement continued, “She confessed that her victims are mainly single young ladies, who work in cooperative offices like banks, civil service, and sales girls, assuring them that her brother who is based overseas is looking for a wife.” While some of the members of her syndicate remain at large, the majority of her victims are still at large.
“She also informs her victims that she possesses the spiritual power to cleanse their afflictions and is able to double any sum that the victim gives her. Since joining the gang early last year, Mrs. Rose, a mother of five, has defrauded more than five young women of a total of nine million dollars or more.
“The Command therefore wishes to use this medium to advise members of the public, particularly young people, to engage in a legitimate business that will, in turn, bring them better profits and growth in their lives rather than the get rich quick strategy. Also, to be cautious about letting strangers into our private lives. When the investigation is finished, the case will be taken to court.
