The Labour Party (LP) Presidential Campaign Council has made the declaration in advance of Saturday’s elections for president and National Assembly that it will not give anyone money in exchange for support.
According to Naija News, the LP State Chairmen in each of the 36 states of the federation predicted Peter Obi’s defeat prior to Saturday’s elections.
Sani Abdulsalam, chairman of Gombe LP, stated at a media briefing on Thursday that Obi cannot win at the polls on Saturday because he has excluded all state chairmen and refused to mobilize for campaign activities.
Abdusalam also said that Obi doesn’t care about the party’s executives and has ignored them in favor of working with his cronies.
He was said to be with Mohammed Alkali, the national vice chairman for the North East, and Ibrahim Bukar, the chairman of Yobe State, among others.
Abdusalam said that Obi’s neglect has a tendency to affect the party’s performance at the polls on Saturday. He also said that Obi chose to work with cronies and support groups because he doesn’t trust the state chairmen to do what they say they will.
However, in an interview with TheCable, Yunusa Tanko, a spokesperson for the LP campaign council, stated that the party’s focus is on those who vote in accordance with their conscience rather than those who expect financial support.
According to Tanko, “Nobody is boycotting any election because the election is already on,” the state chairmen cannot prevent Obi from winning, and there is no issue of sidelining, as was alleged. And nobody is being left out.
“People are expecting a traditional approach to politics, which is not possible at our place,” Then there’s probably the issue of raising money for elections, which is something that people are used to, but they aren’t seeing it.
There is currently no money anywhere on the ground. It depends on your conscience and whether you support a movement. That’s it. Nobody should anticipate receiving any money from anyone.
“That’s where the problem is, but nothing is stopping us, as far as we are concerned. We are moving forward, and voting will begin within the next 24 hours. There is no issue.
