The Federal and State governments have been urged to put an end to the ruthless killings and kidnappings of innocent persons in the State by the Zamfara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ.
The Council remarked that the people could no longer sleep because the situation was so embarrassing.
The State Council bemoaned that the terrorists were acting as though there was no longer a government in force in a communique that was jointly signed by the council’s chairman, Comrade Ibrahim Musa Mazere, and the council’s secretary, Comrade Ibrahim Ahmad Gada.
The Council asked the Federal and State governments to step up their efforts in search of a long-term fix to the issue of teething insecurity.
The union also urged the state government to develop strong policies right once that would lessen the suffering of the general populace.
However, the union applauded Governor Dauda Lawal’s decision to establish the State Security Trust Fund as one of his administration’s strategies for addressing the problem of insecurity in the State, and it advised the State government to form a security committee made up of traditional leaders, retired security personnel, and relevant stakeholders.
The Council also recalled the Governor’s earlier promise to build an appropriate press center in the State that meets international standards.
Additionally, it asked the State government to give the agricultural industry higher importance by providing inputs and other incentives to support farmers in their legal pursuits.
It complimented the State Government, led by Dauda Lawal, for paying pensions and eliminating a three-month backlog in worker salary arrears within its first month in office.
The union requested a swift procedure while noting the state government’s commitment to cleaning up the civil servants’ payroll.
