Mujahid Kabir and Abba Imam, both suspected fake journalists, have been apprehended by the Kano State Police Command for defrauding a trader with a fake bank alert.

SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the command’s spokesperson, said in a statement on February 8, 2023, that the suspects bought a bag of rice for N33,000 from a plaza at Sharada Quarters and made up an alert.
The statement read: “A report was received from the Manager of a Plaza at Sharada Quarters, Kano Municipal LGA, Kano State that, two people went to their Plaza, purchased a bag of rice at Thirty-Three Thousand Naira (N33,000:00) and generated a fake alert to them on February 2, 2023, at approximately 1700 hours.”

“Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police for the Kano State Command, CP Mamman Dauda, psc(+), raised the matter and instructed a team of detectives led by SP Abdulrahim Adamu, Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Sharada Division, to apprehend the perpetrators.
“The team immediately went to the scene and arrested Mujahid Kabir, “m,” 30 years old, of Ahmadu Bello Way, and Abba Imam, “m,” 30 years old, of Zoo Road Kano, who were attempting to flee. The suspects were found to be in possession of Vision FM Personnel Identity Cards during a spot search.

“During the initial investigation, the suspects admitted to going to Vision FM Radio station Kano, stealing two personnel Identity Cards, and creating fictitious copies with their names and photos. They also admitted going to the aforementioned Sharada Quarters plaza, purchasing a bag of rice, and faking a transaction with the cashier.
“The case was referred to the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for discreet investigation by the Commissioner of Police.” Upon completion of the investigation, suspects will be brought to court.
