For their triumph over Bendel Insurance in the Nigeria Premier Football League Championship Playoffs, Rivers United players received N5 million from former Rivers State sports commissioner Christopher Green.
Green had addressed the team prior to the game and vowed to reward them.
Morice Chukwu and Joseph Onoja scored goals to help the Pride of Rivers defeat the Benin Arsenal and snap their league-leading streak of 21 games without a loss.
The Pride of Rivers has eight points after four games and is currently ranked second.
In order to successfully defend their title, Stanley Eguma’s team must defeat the People’s Elephant.
The match will take place on Sunday at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos.
