On Tuesday, the governor-led Zamfara State Executive Council announced that 200,000 households would receive palliative care.
Malam Abubakar Nakwada, secretary to the state government, made the following statement to reporters shortly after an exco meeting: “As part of the resolutions by the Council, 200,000 vulnerable families in the State will benefit from food stuff as one of the palliative measures to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal by the Federal Government.”
According to him, under a suitable arrangement for the palliative program, some groups of State employees would be taken into consideration for a similar act.
In order to ease the State’s transportation issues for students, the Executive Council additionally approved the immediate provision of 10 additional 52-seater Marcopolo buses in addition to the initial 50 palliative buses.
He noted that under the new palliative arrangement, students in primary schools in particular will receive free transportation.
The SSG continued by stating that the Council had assessed its efforts to protect the lives and property of the State’s citizens.
He said that during the council meeting, Governor Lawal instructed the Ministries of Education, Commerce and Industries, and Health to immediately act on the conclusions and recommendations from the most recent needs assessment in order to ensure efficient service delivery and the greatest possible success for their respective Ministries.
Other commissioners have been given the responsibility and authority to run their ministries fully, he said.
